A new fine silver coin from the Royal Canadian Mint recounts Stefan Michalak’s experience in full colour with an otherworldly shape that is ideal for the glow-in-the-dark effect that reveals how the craft and its blast might appear should one encounter the craft at night - what would you do? Manitoba’s historical records contain almost 2,000 reported sightings, and the one that took place at Falcon Lake on May 20,1967 remains one of the best-documented encounters of all time. He never called the strange object a “UFO,” because there was never any evidence to definitively prove that claim. He did not see the burns as an act of aggression, but the result of being too close to a craft that’s taking off, and wanted to warn others to keep their distance. On the contrary, Stefan Michalak reported the incident to protect others. “My parents immigrated from Poland in 1949,” says Michalak’s son Stan, “Anyone who experienced the German occupation during the Second World War would be very hesitant to draw attention to themselves with a story like this.” And Michalak had real physical burns on his body and his clothes. At first, the teenagers joked it was a flying saucer, but when they heard Michalak’s story, they thought perhaps they had seen the same thing.įor 32 years until his death in 1999, Michalak’s conviction never faltered, his story never changed. The object jumped across the sky and disappeared. Another resident reports seeing something strange on the other side of Falcon Lake that day. Time revealed that Michalak was not the only witness.

Within days, the Falcon Lake Incident and photos of Michalak’s strange grid-like burns began appearing in newspapers everywhere.ĭoctors believed Michalak suffered from radiation poisoning, but extensive medical testing in Canada, the US, even the Mayo Clinic, could not explain the burns or the symptoms that lingered for months.Ī copy of the sketch Stefan Michalak provided to the authorities for their investigation.*Īfter months of investigation, military and scientific experts declared the case “unsolved.” Michalak managed to make his way out of the forest and catch a bus back to Winnipeg where he reported the incident to authorities. His chest was severely burned, he felt weak, his head hurt, and he started vomiting. Michalak ripped his clothes off and threw them to the ground. The force of the blast threw Michalak to the ground, his shirt and undershirt on fire.

In an instant, the craft tilted to the left and began turning counter-clockwise before disappearing into the sky. Michalak touched the craft - it was so hot, it burned his glove. But, before Michalak could move any farther, three panels sealed the opening shut. With his safety goggles in place, Michalak peered into the opening where his eyes met with a brilliant maze of lights.
